Despite the rough start, dinner ended up being fun. After the initial shock of my identity wore off, Callumâs friends all treated me as if I was one of the guys. It had been a glimpse of what a normal life would be like, and it turned out I kind of enjoyed it.
Outside the restaurant, Felix, Izzy, North, and Wren stood off to the side to give Callum and me some privacy to say goodbye. Too bad they were doing a shit job of trying to act like they werenât watching us.
Callum had loosened up after he realized the revelation didnât upset me. However, the fear and worry returned to his beautiful blue eyes. It filled me with a need to make everything okay for him.
âIâm sorry they told me.â His gaze pleaded with me for forgiveness.
âItâs fine. I assumed that would happen when I agreed to meet them. Honestly, it went better than I expected.â
âYou have my word, I wonât research you,â Callum promised. âNothing will change.â
My arms ached with an unfamiliar desire for another hug. He was too precious for words. âI donât mind if you look me up online or watch the commercial. I believe you when you say it wouldnât change anything.â
Apparently, he had the same urge, because he hesitated only a moment before hugging me again. The same as before, his snickering friends, the noisy traffic, the entire universe faded out. All that mattered was him. My residual stress dissipated as I relaxed from the comfort of his nearness. The experience was damn near euphoric.
âI donât care who you are. Youâre my Rune.â He clung to me like the cutest koala bear in the world.
His Rune? It was a thought I should rebel against, because I belonged to no one but me. And yetâ¦I didnât hate it? I liked the Rune that I was around him, because that was the real me that I could only be with him. That Rune had room in his heart for Callum and wanted to cherish him for the gift that he was. That Rune was who I wished I was all the time.
âUh, I mean, not that youâre mine, butââ
I shushed his rambling and held him tighter. Why did stroking his soft hair bring me so much peace? What was it about holding him that completed me in a way I hadnât thought was possible before? Everything was right in my world when he was in my embrace, and I never wanted to let him go.
After this, I owed my brother an apology for criticizing his need to hug people. Holding Callum was more satisfying than sex in a lot of ways, and I didnât know what to make of that. Sex left me hollow and unfulfilled, but hugging him restored me with an addicting satisfaction.
Callum breathed in deep again to smell my cologne. He moaned with pleasure, causing my dick to stir with interest. It seemed to do the same for him, because he grew erect against me.
